Identity books

Helping Hand volunteers have during their time at the center developed a project which they call “Identity books”. In the books the children fill in facts about themselves and write about their dreams, future plans and other personal things like who their best friends, and memories they have.

The aim of the books is to give children an identity and the chance to have dreams and plans for the future. The hope is that they’ll be able to fill in more and more as they get older and then bring their books in the future and be able to see how they evolved and grown.

The project has so far worked very well and the children have committed told me about how they want their futures. For some, this is about simple things like being able to invite a grandmother on chicken or owning your own goat while others want to become pilots, Presidents and football pros, at the same time.
